1.
(Music and lyrics: Joana Serrat) Water running up to my door Feeling a little bit drowned By the flood that is a-coming Was I thrown against the universe Forced to contemplate The beauty of your loving? I am trapped in my own frame Master of my lonely time Will you make us shine? Your arms are looming from the dark My flesh the only spark In the dawn of a new morning Spinning in this ring of dust Satellite of love Am I free from falling? I am trapped in my own frame Master of my lonely time Will you make us shine?
2.
Dirty Water 03:50
(Music: Joana Serrat, Marta Delmont, Matthew McDaid / Lyrics: Matthew McDaid) We were half way there When we had to turn back They saw our ghosts Slide across the moon I wouldn't say it was fair We were covering our tracks We're out of the war Well before they knew I, I've been drinking dirty water From the river in your palm I, I've been kneeling on the sharp end Another nail in the cross We were up to our necks On promises we can't keep Another rider slipped away at dawn You put me up to the test But the winds were too weak Blowing smoke out into the fog I, I've been drinking dirty water From the river in your palm I, I've been kneeling on the sharp end Another nail in the cross
3.
(Music: Victor Partido / Lyrics: Victor Partido, David Giménez) I found your last twisted letter from the far Remained for years unopened at my dusty teenage desk And it said “sure, we will never come back to this point that we dreamed about” These days, the scene and the characters seem to blur And the freezing lost illusions keep me caged and numb But I could see you Activating old warning signs Gonna be in my dreams Just right here in my dreams Just right here in my dreams Where all is done There's no need to blame ourselves We figured out so many times But didn ́t see the sand had drained out From our damaged bodies These days, the scene and the characters maybe seem to blur And the freezing lost illusions keep me caged and numb But I could see you Activating old warning signs It will be in my dreams Only in my dreams Gonna be in my dreams Just right here in my dreams Where all ́s done
4.
(Music: Joana Serrat / Lyrics: David Giménez, Joana Serrat) Where do you go? I feel the cold pervading my soul The ground is melting under my feet My veins creek like broken trees Silence keeps me naked Hidden behind white curtains Everything's alright here above But something shady seems to stalk It's Spring everything blooms Why am I not reborn within you? In Spring everyone celebrates But the Winter in me is what’s left A murder of crows flies Over the blood-red poppy fields Their wings whistle like sharp blades A clean cut between you and me Silence keeps me naked Hidden behind white curtains Everything's alright here above But something shady seems to stalk It's Spring everything blooms Why am I not reborn within you? In Spring everyone celebrates But the Winter in me is what’s left
5.
Downtown 04:05
(Music and lyrics: Victor Partido) The filthy league's already ahead They’re freaking out like babies Telling basement tales A solid flood appeared one day This new deal is on now Parafine's up in the air Frustration's growing Why we had to reach this point Why we had to feel so wrong They're feeling free With shake of hands And we are carrying with the guilt to be so pure at heart They paid for us as replicants The shame is now among us The sound of hundred millions streets will be loud forever When isolation's not a choice When all the damage has been done I heard them screaming downtown I saw them coming downtown I felt them suffering downtown And I saw them bleeding
6.
(Music: Joana Serrat / Lyrics: Joana Serrat, David Giménez) Like a thunder in the mountains And the wind whistling through the woods
Like the echo in the valley
And the eagle chasing the cliff in its shadow Just a hunch in a heartbeat Winter breaks into this path I'm a-wandering Far in the east the dark creeps up on me West it calls me out to be free Hold on to your footsteps My dear companion
And listen to the sorrows
Of the Riders Of The Canyon Smothered bonfire, smoky witness
The devious dance of another loner
Steel in the gold, a weep in my soul
I'm clinging to the old promises you broke Hold on to your footsteps My dear companion
And listen to the sorrows
Of the Riders Of The Canyon Hold on to your footsteps My dear companion
And listen to the sorrows Of the Riders Of The Canyon
7.
Sunrising 03:46
(Music: Victor Partido / Lyrics: Victor Partido and David Giménez) Comes a time when blue comes in I need a little subtle disguise Just the laughing side of me With a smile erasing grey skies Maybe I just wanna to feel it again Take the steps I always wanted to take Soon I will be able to breathe the air Make the choice I wanted to make And follow the sun It´s so hard for me right now To see the pictures of all of your stuff I can hardly describe the way it changes my senses It starts to hurt Maybe I just wanna to feel it again Take the steps I always wanted to take Soon I will be able to breathe the air Make the choice I wanted to make And follow the sun I can see in your eyes All those fake dreams Trying to hear your sweet voice How could I know When everything I notice is that strange noise I can't stand it anymore No need to wait I want to be as pure As this sunrising Maybe I just wanna to feel it again Take the steps I always wanted to take Soon I will be able to breathe the air Make the choice I wanted to make And follow the sun
8.
Wild River 04:00
(Music and lyrics: Matthew McDaid) If these boots were mine to walk in I'd take a stroll out to that riverside If these words were mine to talk with I'd ask that river to roll with me a while Would she be strong and drag me down Anchored to her pebbled bed I lay I'll play along and fool around The sweet erosion for to soothe my pain Oh wild river drag me down Drag me down Drag me down, down, down Oh wild river drag me down Drag me down, down, drag me down If these boots were mine to walk in I'd be out the door at the first signs of light If this hope was mine to lean on Darling morphine help my worried mind Would she behave give me my fill Keep me going down the gravel road Hungry and tame along the hills Till the morning I'll be bathed in gold Oh wild river drag me down Drag me down Drag me down, down, down Oh wild river drag me down Drag me down, down, drag me down
9.
(Music: Joana Serrat, David Giménez / Lyrics: Joana Serrat, David Giménez, Matthew McDaid) I've been too close to the well I've been hanging over pain I saw the faces of our faults Whispering softly to our souls Sometimes I can see the future And there's a crack in the wall We're part of some kinda addiction Locked up in the chains of love What parts of us
are wrong illusions
Into what reflection
Can we hold on? Rolling onto my own sins Sighing on the neon stars Cold cold kisses on the rocks Warmthy hope to my guts Sometimes I can see the future And there's a crack in the wall We're part of some kinda addiction Locked up in the chains of love What parts of us
are wrong illusions
Into what reflection
Can we hold on?
10.
Sorrow Song 03:47
(Music and Lyrics: Matthew McDaid) Raise a glass and then drink it fast Before we all run out Those funny years we volunteered To swing amongst the crowd Ladies taunt but all they really want Is to lay down with a beast The love they chose to use and expose Is the love they love the least Is the love they love the least Guilty minds will fold in time If they cannot let go And face the fact that turning back Is a river of it's own Children played and then ran away Growing older in the fields Will we ever remember them Bring flowers to where they kneel Bring flowers to where they kneel

about

"It's sublime. A wonderful album. Sumptuous melodies"
9/10 (Allan Jones, Uncut magazine)

After the unequalled international critical acclaim of Catalonian singer-songwriter Joana Serrat's latest album, "Hardcore From The Heart" [2021, Loose Music, Great Canyon Records] (“a gem of haunted reflection” 9/10 Allan Jones, Uncut; "like Mazzy Ster guesting on an early Neil Young demo", Mojo; “You’re going to fall deeply in love with her...just amazing” Guy Gurvey, BBC6 Music, “a slow burning slice of beauty” Roddy Hart, BBC Radio Scotland, “Gorgeous” The Guardian, “this emotional indie rocker has the hazy allure of Mazzy Star with a dash of cosmic country” The Times), and after she has toured around the world opening for artists such as Kris Kristofferson, Band Of Horses, Nikki Lane, Israel Nash, The Delines and many others, Serrat now presents to us her side project called Riders Of The Canyon.

Riders Of The Canyon is a Folk-Rock band featuring Joana Serrat, Northern Irish singer-songwriter Matthew McDaid and Catalonians Roger Usart and Victor Partido, which was formed in early 2017, only two months after they opened for Texan’s The Band Of Heathens, at the end of their European tour.

All songs have been composed and written by the Riders Of The Canyon and David Gimenez, and features outstanding performances from guest musicians BJ Cole (Elton John, R.E.M., Mojave 3), Cory Gray (The Delines, The Decemberists, Laura Gibson), Jason Kardong (Brandi Carlile, Marissa Nadler, Margo Cilker), Grammy winner Jesse Chandler (Midlake, Mercury Rev, Beth Orton), Joey McClellan (Midlake, John Grant, Rufus Wainwright), Grammy winner McKenzie Smith (St. Vincent, Sharon Van Etten, First Aid Kit), Aaron McClellan (Israel Nash, Josh T. Pearson, Alejandro Escovedo) and many more.

The album was recorded between Barcelona, Girona, Texas, Nashville, Oregon and London, produced by John Morgan Askew, Joey McClellan, McKenzie Smith and the Riders Of The Canyon, and mixed by Grammy winner Ted Young (Kurt Vile, Mercury Rev, Israel Nash) and John Morgan Askew (Neko Case, She & Him, Alela Diane).

As a result of this powerful meeting of such talented artists, Riders Of The Canyon’s debut features ten superb songs which reflect the best songwriting abilities of each of them: rapturous, addictive and contagious energy, enveloping acoustic landscapes, and the wonderful combinations of vocal harmonies.
