I’ve been round here baby once or twice I know the barman I knew his wife They’ve served me courage every night till late A bottle or six are gonna set me straight Yeah they’re gonna set me straight Yeah they’re gonna set me straight I’ve been known to go treading on the wire Moving to the rhythm of a jungle choir Not looking down to see the fall beneath my feet Maybe that’s the only lesson I could ever teach Yeah that I could ever teach Yeah that I could ever teach Give me the common sense not to lose my grip Keep a knife held up under my tongue and lip Though it’s a tough road home but we can stroll along And then get tangled with the blackbirds on the wall If them drunken brothers were to come again Well I’ll greet them with an iron hand I’ll let them know about the stars above This one’s for me for my for the what I was This one’s for me for my for the what I was I’ve been round here baby once or twice I know the barman I knew his wife They served me courage every night till late A bottle or six are gonna set me straight Yeah they’re gonna set me straight Yeah they’re gonna set me straight

It’s a quarter past the hour And I’m coming to believe That there’s a point I’m trying to make here There’s a view I cannot see Though all singers have been silenced And all the good fellas are gone I feel the moving in the dancing hands Spinning round the clock Is there any evidence of the bullet in my brain Or the tumour that I call my friend When he comes around for tea Might I steal a cigarette might I be so bold We’ll I’m not just quite the sinner yet But there’s a bounty on my soul I’m calling, I’m calling Ye of little faith come out and play a while I’m rambling, I’m rambling Ye of little faith sit down and listen child Take a walk straight into winter Feel the breeze upon my skin It cleans away the wrongful answers That are lying deep within Striking matches in the darkness With half a will to understand If there’s a beating in the heart that Rests upon my shaking hands We’re all animals of habitat we’re animals for sure I can see on the faces of the rich and of the poor That raging bull is coming out just in time to say hello To the little boy they talk about but little did they know I’m calling, I’m calling Ye of little faith come out and play a while I’m rambling, I’m rambling Ye of little faith sit down and listen child Though all the times I jumped and hopped I’m finally talking to the truth He seems much less than I imagined But I imagined he did too We set to put up all the boundaries To keep the villains coming through With each wall so tall I wondered If I’m closing up too soon There’s a lot of life to live A million faces we should know But what’s the point of it I asked If they’re all standing far below With a flicker of his wrist He up and left me there alone So I burnt those walls and let them fall Yo the devil they may go I’m calling, I’m calling Ye of little faith come out and play a while I’m rambling, I’m rambling Ye of little faith sit down and listen child

Winter came and passed To wrap me up in the sweet caress Though the stories have all been said I know you’ll save me one or two You were long and gone Back to where you don’t belong Fill your mornings with a different song I never knew you never knew I’ll be with the whispering winds Travel over oceans or just round the bend I will I’ll be with the whispering winds Picking up the drifter with the palm of my hands I will I’ll be with the whispering winds Take up a notion cut the roots from the stem I will I’ll be with the whispering winds Would you care to tag along The balance seems to go The highest high and the low below But somehow it only goes to show That there’s room for more that one at a time Step on higher ground Let me know if it’s safe and sound Or are there demons coming from all around Then it’s a drug I’ll never try I’ll be with the whispering winds Travel over oceans or just round the bend I will I’ll be with the whispering winds Picking up the drifter with the palm of my hands I will I’ll be with the whispering winds Take up a notion cut the roots from the stem I will I’ll be with the whispering winds Would you care to tag along

Lay me down gentle put your head in my hands I won’t be starting fires Let’s make a temple out of this bed Meet me with your hearts desires Talk to me straight cause the cavalry’s gone There’s no need to guard and there’s no need to run We ain’t no lovers we’re just digging for gold Whatever we find will be melted and sold Darling I know you well Darling I know you well Darling I know you well I do believe it’s been coming on for way too long It seems so simple when I look at it now There’s no before and after There’s only a feeling a moment we found When nothing and everything matters It’s the look in your eye as it came over me Like the weight of the moon as she tugs at the sea In the circus you find you’ll be finally free Our hearts will go flying swinging from the trapeze Darling I know you well Darling I know you well Darling I know you well I do believe it’s been coming on for way too long Hold me close and you’ll see That it’s not as dark as it seems Let me turn down the lights just this time I felt it before it could fall This wind arrived with a call To let me in past your door That song that you gave me I just couldn’t ignore Darling I know you well Darling I know you well Darling I know you well I do believe it’s been coming on for way too long
5.
Listen now darling I know that it’s tempting To smuggle yourself through the woods There’s no point in tripping your baggage is slipping When it’s weighing far more than it should But I’ll be the whistler, come may the storm I’ll be the first boat out of the port I’ll be a farmer, deep in my roots I’ll be the alibi sent to the noose Listen now darling the hopes that I mention Come clean as a white river wash The last time I noticed your rapids unfolded Revealing the heart that you’d lost I’ll be the lone star crisp at the core I’ll be the long lost love in your porn I’ll be a willow and let down my screen You’ll be the jockey and I’ll be the steed I wish you well
6.
Sweet Tide 06:47
I went down to the ocean To see if I knew what was wrong Cause the tide had stopped working And nobody knew who to call The soldiers they mounted their horses and galloped their way to the beach But the sand was too slippery They where forced to accept the defeat Oh my my, oh what a sight We’d never seen nothing like this in our lives Oh my my, oh what a sight Sweet tide won’t you come in for me The mayor arrived with his lawyers His face was as red as the sun He said this is what happens when lovers Lay down together as one The fishermen puzzled with questions They’d never seen water so still Was it God sending a message Or going in for the kill Oh my my, oh what a sight We’d never seen nothing like this in our lives Oh my my, oh what a sight Sweet tide won’t you come in for me Slowly I walked to the shoreline that goddess was calling me in She held me up in her arms I Could feel her awaken from within She greeted my presence with dancing To a song with no rhythm nor rhyme And when we were tired of laughing Then I knew I was hers and she was mine Oh my my, oh what a sight We’d never seen nothing like this in our lives Oh my my, oh what a sight Sweet tide won’t you come in for me
7.
Well in two weeks you’ll be married And have a Christmas wedding With the perfect man in flowers At your misty pine cone setting Then you move to California To spread the word you know that If you strike a deal with Jesus He’ll supply the beer and pizza Through the Great Divide, that's right When it comes to hallelujahs You’ve got lots in your to do list Will you sink or will you float When it gets crowded on your boat I’m hearing that you’re getting nervous For when he finally sees you naked He’s been dreaming of performing And he hopes that you don’t fake it And I wonder oh I do, Hell I wonder you know if you knew Would I have been good enough Would I have been good enough Would I have been good enough For loving you
8.
When I get older I’ll say to my daughters Let there be love in your life if you can Know that it always runs down like a river Taunting the pebbles and stones round the bend I’ll sing, I’ll sing all the day long For her to find rest in my arms I’ll wait, I’ll wait hungry at dawn  To kindly tip hats with the lark When I was younger I yearned for my mother Knowing I’d only just lose her again Often I’d crave for the warmth of the lighthouse Casting her presence right there by my bed I’ll sing, I’ll sing all the day long For you to find rest in my arms I’ll wait, I’ll wait hungry at dawn  To kindly tip hats with the lark If I was to wake in the clothes of my father With hairs on my jacket and pride in my hand I hope that I’d take on the wisdom provided To look back and witness no shame nor regret I’ll sing, I’ll sing all the day long For you to find rest in my arms  I’ll wait, I’ll wait hungry at dawn To kindly tip hats with the lark
9.
Karma 04:41
Where do we go, where do we die At the bottom of the ocean Or falling from a blue blue sky You tell it to me oh you tell it to them If there’s an awakening in the spirits But no one else cares no Still I see you pacing lines You’re talking to the wind And listening for a sign or a sound Until one day you’ll hear that bell Go running and the door to see it’s only Karma coming around Karma’s coming around My fair lady on the wall would you let me in Let me know who or what you’re grieving for Could it be oh could it be A love long lost or a Truth too heavy to endure Still that water’s boiling over It’s dripping on the counter Oh it’s spilling on the ground Until one day you’ll hear that call The rustle in the leaves that can only mean it’s Karma coming around Karma’s coming around She’s coming
10.
This little blue bird she sings to me Her song is like a killing spree She sets my heart up into flames Born from the ash again This little blue bird she won’t sit still She’s blowing out the candles on the windowsill  She never looks back at what’s behind Ready for a different kind The summer’s gone and I’m feeling lonely again  The summer’s gone and I’m feeling lonely again This little blue bird she knows my name And it’s all that it seems that she can ever say She’s there on my shoulder every time I leave To make sure I fall in love again Perhaps if I ran into the perfect one She’d spread those wings and she’d be up and gone But until then she’ll sit right here Singing in my left ear The summer’s gone and I’m feeling lonely again  The summer’s gone and I’m feeling lonely again So fly away blue bird And bring back some love for me  This time it’ll be true bird, as true as it will be But until then I’ll wait round here  Trying to get my foot through the door Blue bird don’t you be leaving me no more no more

about

Matthew McDaid released his debut LP Off The Beaten Track on September 2017 via Great Canyon Records, an album that has already won the unanimous praise from the entire Spanish press.

Off The Beaten Track was chosen as Nº 6 in Spanish magazine Mondo Sonoro's list of Best Folk / Americana Albums of the Year and has been aired at The International Americana Music Show based in New York (USA) as one of the Higlights of 2017.

Accompanied by a full band of top musicians and including the cosmic keys of none other than Glen Hansard's pianist Romy, Matthew states that "Off The Beaten Track is a rocky road filled with ups and downs and a constant change in scenery that never bores".

Matthew McDaid supported Joana Serrat on her UK tour during April 2018 and he brought his music to stages and shared pure emotions, some with an intimate subtlety, others with an explosive force, creating precious, universal and moving evenings. He also played at Focus Wales Fest in Wrexham in May 2019.
